Also known as “Ordinary Time,” the Season after Pentecost is anything but ordinary. Stretching from Trinity Sunday to Christ the King, this long green season invites us into the everyday work of Christian discipleship—growing in faith, following Jesus, and bearing the fruits of the Spirit in the world.
In Year C of the Revised Common Lectionary, the semi-continuous Old Testament readings trace the prophetic imagination of leaders like Elijah, Elisha, and Jeremiah, while the Gospel readings follow Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem in the Gospel of Luke. Along the way, we hear parables, teachings, and stories of healing that stretch our understanding of God’s reign—challenging us to embrace mercy, justice, and humble service. From summer through fall, these texts call us to live out the Pentecost Spirit in daily life, rooted in hope and open to transformation.
