John 3:13-17
The Revealed God

John 3:16 is one of the most quoted verses in all of Scripture — but it is also one of the most misunderstood. Too often, Jesus gets abstracted into an idea, a slogan, or even a mascot for our own ideologies. But the Gospel insists that God’s love is revealed in this way: in the concrete life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

This sermon explores the difference between the Jesus we imagine and the Jesus who is revealed in the details of Jesus' life, teaching, death, and resurrection. The good news is that God has not left us to invent him for ourselves. God has chosen to be known in Jesus, so our faith is not built on abstraction, but on a person who has come to love us in this particular way.
