God's encounter with Elijah and the Garesenes reminds us how easy it can be get used to the dysfunction of our lives and world. God offers us forgivenss for the things we have normalized, and follows that up with the power to see the reality of what we have normalized and to break free from it. This is one of the functions of the Church (particularly our liturgical worship) -- to be a vessel of God's disruption.
