A Faith that Moves Us

At Messiah, we draw on deep Christian roots: Scripture, the historic creeds, the ancient liturgies, and the Reformation’s impulse to think critically about how to clearly communicate the Good News in our world today. Our beliefs not only ground us, but they propel us forward to love deeply, welcome unconditionally, and serve humbly.

Our Core Beliefs
  • Scripture-Centered Faith: At the heart of our faith is the belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, revealing God's will for humanity and inviting us into a deeper relationship with God. We believe that Scripture is the foundation for understanding who God is, who we are, and how we are called to live in the world. Through thoughtful study and reflection on the Scriptures, we seek to grow in our faith and live out God's love in tangible ways.

  • Faith and Grace Alone: We believe that faith and salvation are gifts from God. No performance. No earning. We trust in the promise that God's love is unconditional and ever-present, and we respond to this grace by living out our faith with joy, humility, and service to others. Faith is our way of receiving and responding to God's transforming love.

  • Word and Sacrament: We believe God meets us in the Word and in the shared, ancient ritual of Christian worship. Through water, bread, wine, oil, and communal prayer, God's promises take on visible and tangible form. The sacraments (Communion and Baptism) and our embodied, liturgical worship connects us with the earliest Christians and the mystery of the Incarnation itself. Just as God came to us in Jesus, so God continues to offer us the promise of grace in ways we can physically experience.

  • Always Reforming: As heirs of the Reformation, we embrace the Lutheran tradition of being "always reforming." We are committed to asking critical questions, challenging assumptions, and seeking new expressions of church that are faithful to the gospel and relevant to the world today. This reforming spirit calls us to listen to the voices both within and outside the church—especially those who are marginalized or calling for justice—and to honor their perspectives as part of our ongoing growth. We believe that the church must continually listen, learn, and adapt to meet the needs of a changing world while staying true to the gospel message of grace, justice, and love.
