Burning of the Palms

Have you ever wondered where the ashes come from for Ash Wednesday? Traditionally, they are made by burning the palms from the previous year's Palm Sunday liturgy. At Messiah, we will take part in this tradition the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday at 7:30pm (weather permitting) right outside the narthex of the church. Celebratory beverages will be on hand to toast the changing of the church seasons and the entry of the holy season of Lent.
