Mardi Gras ("Fat Tuesday"), is the day before the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is the Christian season in which we are called to be especially focused on repentance, prayer, service, and simplicity. Christians throughout the ages, then, have observed this Tuesday as a day to celebrate with lots of food and fun before the seriousness of Lent.

At Messiah, we will observe this tradition by venturing around the corner to Weatherford College who will be hosting their 4th Annual Mardi Gras Festival! This free community event will feature a jazz music, a gumbo contest, face painting, crafts, and lots of good food! The festival will begin at 6:00pm in the Alkek Fine Arts Center. Click here for more info.

We will meet up at Messiah to leave promplty at 6:00pm and carpool over to the College, or you can meet the group at the College around 6:00.

Then, around 7:30pm., those who wish are invited to end the night's festivities back at Messiah where we will take part in the Mardi Gras tradition of burning last year's Palm Sunday palm branches and enjoying some bubbly beverages. The ashes from the palms are used as the ashes in our Ash Wednesday service.
