As a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation, Messiah commits to setting aside one Sunday each year to celebrate and deepen our commitment to inclusion and justice in both Church and Society.

Our very first RIC Sunday is next Sunday, June 29, during the 10:30 AM service!

This service will include special prayers, music, and scripture that lift up Jesus’ radical welcome and the Gospel call to healing, justice, and belonging for all.

We will be joined that morning by friends from PLAC (Parker County LGBTQ Awareness Community), a local nonprofit supporting LGBTQ individuals and families in Parker and surrounding rural counties. One of PLAC’s leaders, Sophia, will be sharing her story with us and speaking about PLAC’s mission as part of the message during our service.

We will also take up a special offering that Sunday. Half of our special offering will go to support ReconcilingWorks and their nation-wide programs to promote inclusion within the ELCA. The other half of our offering will remain local and go to support

PLAC and their vital work in Weatherford and surrounding rural communities.

But wait, there’s even more ways you can participate and make this Sunday special!

  • Wear bright, bold colors to express joy and diversity!

  • Bring a small container of water with you for a special ritual in our service. This can simply be water from your own tap, rain that you collect, or it can be from a body of water that means something to you (a lake, a river, a creek, etc.)

  • Invite a friend or share about this event with your friends on social media. This would be a great day to invite someone to Messiah. Many folks have left the Church because they’ve associated Christianity with exclusion, judgement, and hypocrisy. While we don’t claim to be perfect at Messiah, we are making an effort to right those wrongs within the Christian community, so sharing about Messiah’s RIC commitment could be a powerfully healing witness.
