Faith doesn’t stop at the church doors. At Messiah, we believe the Gospel calls us not only to love our neighbor, but to speak out, show up, and stand alongside them in the public square. Our Public Witness & Advocacy ministry is how we live into that call—by working for justice, inclusion, and compassion through coordinated efforts in our community, state, and world. This is not a side project—it’s part of who we are as a church.
Through this ministry, we are actively engaged in:
-
ReconcilingWorks & LGBTQ+ Advocacy
As a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation, we work for full inclusion and justice for LGBTQIA+ people in the Church and society. We offer spiritual care and sanctuary for those often excluded, celebrate RIC Sunday during Pride Month, and partner with local organizations like PLAC to support LGBTQ+ lives in Parker County. -
Texas Impact
We support this statewide interfaith justice network that equips Texans of faith to engage with lawmakers on moral and ethical issues. Members of Messiah are encouraged to use the Texas Impact Action Center to make their voices heard on key legislative topics, from voting rights to environmental justice. -
NT-NL Public Witness Team
As part of our ELCA synod, we partner with congregations across North Texas and Northern Louisiana to show up in public, prophetic ways—whether that’s through educational events, coordinated actions, or moral witness around issues like racial equity, climate justice, and refugee support. Learn more at ntnlpublicwitness.org. -
Global Refuge (formerly Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service)
We support Global Refuge’s mission to protect and welcome displaced people around the world. This includes advocacy for just immigration policies, supporting asylum-seekers, and standing with migrants and refugees in times of crisis. Learn more at globalrefuge.org.
Together, these partnerships reflect our conviction that faithful discipleship means public engagement. We don’t all have to be policy experts or full-time activists, but we each have a voice—and this ministry helps us use it with courage, clarity, and compassion.
Want to get involved?
We regularly share opportunities to take action, contact lawmakers, attend advocacy events, and meet together to deepen our understanding of justice issues. If you're looking for a faith community that takes seriously Jesus' call to bring about the Kingdom of God's justice here and now, then Messiah is the place for you!
