Join us for a relaxed summer oevening of curiosity, community, and discovery as we explore the hidden world of moths and other nightime creatures that live in Messiah's prairie and surrounding green spaces. "Mothing" is the practice of using sheets and lights to attract and observe moths and other nocturnal insects up close, revelaing the incredible diversity of colors, patterns, and creatures most of us rarely get to notice.

This is a come-and-go event -- stay as long or as a little as you like. At 9:00pm we'll have a short gathering to learn more about moths, mothing, and ways you can continue to enjoy and preserve the natural world that is all around us. This event is just one part of Messiah's larger commitment to creation care, environmental stewardship, and learning to pay closer attention to the living world. No experience or special knowledge is needed for mothing...just show up, hang out with friends, and wait and watch for the moths and insects to reveal themselves.

Participants are encouraged to bring along: lawn chairs or picnic blankets, flashlights, bug spray, comfortbale outdoor clothing, and any beverages or snacks they'd like. All ages are welcome. Invite friends, neighbors, and family! Come, experience the beauty of creation after dark!
