What does it mean to follow Jesus not only in our personal lives, but in the life we share with our neighbors, our communities, and the world?

During Lent, our Sunday Forum will take up one of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s Social Statements each week. These social statements are not partisan talking points or policy prescriptions. They are thoughtful expositions of how our biblical faith and Christian tradition intersects with the needs of the world around us. They challenge us to ask how the gospel shapes our public life, how love of neighbor can take concrete form, and how the church should bear faithful witness amid complexity and disagreement.

Each week, we will read portions of a social statement together and engage in guided conversation, practicing the kind of thoughtful, charitable, and courageous dialogue that Lent calls forth. No advance preparation is required, just a willingness to learn and wrestle with difficult questions together. The upcoming Sunday’s statement will be linked each week in the newsletter if you would like to read each’ week’s statement in its entirety before our conversation. Access to all of the ELCA’s social statements can be found here.
