This year, on our Lenten journey, we are reconnecting with our roots and praying in an ancient pattern of Christian prayer. A sung evening prayer (also known as vespers or evensong) is one of the most ancient patterns of prayer of the Christian Church – harkening back to the time of Roman persecution when Christians often gathered for worship under the cover of night. Gathered by candlelight, the People of God give thanks for the day’s blessings and the assurance of God’s Perpetual Light which shines even in our nighttimes of despair, doubt, and grief. Many of the prayers are traditionally sung or chanted as a way of allowing the worshiper to savor the ancient words and for the assembly to experience the comfort that comes with singing together as one community bound together in a common journey of faith.
Join us each Wednesday during Lent at 6:00 PM. First, we will gather for fellowship and a simple supper. If you'd like to volunteer to bring food one week, please see the sign-up list by the doors outside the sanctuary. After our meal, we will conclude with a brief vespers service.
