Advent Season 2025

The Season of Advent begins a new liturgical year with a holy ache for God’s arrival. This four-week season is a time of hopeful waiting, urgent longing, and quiet preparation, not only for the celebration of Christ’s birth, but for his promised return to renew all creation.

In Year A of the Revised Common Lectionary, the Gospel readings draw from Matthew’s account, calling us to stay awake, to prepare the way, and to trust that God is already drawing near in unexpected ways. We hear prophetic voices inviting us to realign our lives and ready our hearts. In a world of noise and distraction, Advent's quietness invites us to cultivate holy attentiveness, to notice the signs of God’s inbreaking grace, and to become vessels of light in a shadowed world.

More than a countdown to Christmas, Advent is a countercultural practice of hope. It is a season that dares to believe that the world can be transformed and that Christ is still coming to make all things new.
