Coronavirus, Worship, and Congregational Life

About Coronavirus, Worship, and our Congregational Life

Dear Messiah members and friends,

As David says in Psalm 23: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.”

In the light of the public health threat of the Coronavirus, we must take the following precautions:

For now, Messiah will have only one Sunday worship service, streamed on Facebook Live and YouTube at 9:30 A.M.

If you would like to come to the church to receive Holy Communion, please remain in your car and we will bring communion to you at the close of the service. You can watch the service on your phone from the parking lot. The order of service will be printed in the weekly email to members. Use it to follow along with the livestream.

Please only come inside if you have duties . Please use the sanitizer provided as you enter and upon leaving.

All in-person meetings, events and activities are cancelled for the time being.

I am very sad to have to have written these last few sentences, but at this time we best show our love for one another, our neighbors and our community by exercising caution in our public gatherings and interactions.

There is nothing more pleasing than the body of Christ gathered for worship. However, for now, I am convinced that for the sake of one another and the world we must take these cautionary steps.

For the remainder of Lent, Messiah will livestream a Wednesday evening service of word and prayer at 7:00 P.M. I will call on some of you to assist with music or devotions that we can prepare in small groups and share on Facebook and Youtube.

I know you don’t need to be reminded, but please think of family, friends and church members whom you haven’t seen or spoken with in a while and give them a call, text or email to show your concern and love. Physical distancing does not have to mean emotional and spiritual distancing.

We hold in prayer our public officials, police and firefighters, all those financially affected by this crisis, and those on the front lines of care giving: our doctors, nurses, personal care assistants, emergency care providers, and all medical support personnel.

Finally, your financial support is very important even while we are unable to gather for worship. Please consider making your offering online at this link or by mail (PO Box 399, Weatherford, TX, 76086).

Yours in Christ who strengthens us,
Pastor Franz

Prayer amid Pandemic

A Prayer for Pandemic
By Cameron Bellm

May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors
Remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent.
May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close
Remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those that have no safe place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all.
May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
Remember those who have no home.
As fear grips our country,
Let us choose love.
During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.

Lent is the quiet, solemn Christian season traditionally devoted to reflection, repentance, and renewal of faith. The Lenten season takes place during forty days (not counting Sundays) leading up to Easter.

Stir up our hearts, Lord God, and come

Stir up our hearts, Lord God, to prepare the way of your only Son. By his coming nurture our growth as
people of repentance and peace; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Blessing of the Animals coming up Sunday

Next Sunday, Oct. 6, on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, everyone is invited to join their animal companions for a worship service celebrating the many joys brought to us by our animal friends and the creatures of the natural world. We will meet under the tent at 10:30 A.M.

Our 8:30 A.M. service will be traditional with Holy Communion, inside the church.

Direct us, God, in all we do with your help

Direct us, O Lord God, in all our doings with your continual help, that in all our works, begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy name; and finally, by your mercy, bring us to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen
